6. ASSIGNMENT: Fingerprint Lab (Due February 1)
ASSIGNMENT: Fingerprint Lab
15 points
Instructions:
For this assignment you will be analyzing your own fingerprints. You will need some scratch paper, a dark colored ink pad or a marker, and either the fingerprint card below, or a blank piece of paper. It is best to use an ink pad or a marker that is washable if you have one.
Click HERE to open the fingerprint card. Print the page out.
If you don't have a printer, you can use a blank piece of paper to take your prints on.
If you don't have the necessary supplies for this lab, please contact me and I will help you.
Assignment Instructions:
1. Using your ink pad, or a dark colored marker, cover your fingerprint in ink. If using an inkpad, you will need to roll side to side in order to cover all parts of the fingerprint. If using a marker, gently color the whole fingerprint.
2. Then, using some scratch paper, practice making fingerprints. Be sure to roll from one side to the other in order to get the entire print. This may take a little bit of practice to see how much ink you need in order to get a clear print. You need enough that it is clearly visible, but not so much that it smears and is hard to see.
3. Once you have practiced making fingerprints, take your own fingerprints on the fingerprint card or a blank piece of paper.
4. Then, go through and analyze each of your fingerprints. Classify them as either a loop, whorl, or arch. Write what type each fingerprint is below it on the card. Refer to the pictures in the reading from this week if you need help identifying your prints.
5. Once you are finished, take a picture of your card, or scan it into your computer and submit it.
