4.5 ASSIGNMENT: Pick an Informative Essay Topic (Due February 15)
Informative Essay Topic
5 points
Directions:
In 1 year we could never really cover everything that has happened in our nation's history, even when it only covers a portion of that history. There are historians who dedicate their whole lives to understanding just one of the many eras, persons or events that we are trying to cover. We've learned lots in the last several weeks but think about all the many facets of history that we have overlooked!
Sometimes the more we learn the more questions we have, and we just wish that we had the opportunity to do more research on one specific era or event.
Well ... here's your chance!
You are going to write an informative essay about an era, specific event or important figure in US History that we have covered in this course that you would like to learn more about. The purpose of an informative essay is to… INFORM. In order to provide information on an era, you are going to need to do research. Before we can get started, you are going to need to pick a topic.
You may select any era, event or important figure we have covered in class so far for your informative essay.
Here are a few example of the type of topics you can select:
I've always wanted to learn more about early European Explorers. What contributions did they make? Who were the 3 most influential figures of exploration.
What were the most influential and life changing inventions of the 1700s?
I don't know much about how people lived when they first came to the New World and tried to live in colonies. What were those first years really like?
I've always wanted to learn more about a specific Native American tribe. I really want to spend some time learning more about (insert a tribe name here that you are interested in).
I want to learn more about the Salem Witch Trials and the current theories that explain this epidemic.
