READ: Mitochondria

Cellular respiration happens inside both plant and animal cells. Inside plant and animal cells organelles called mitochondria complete the process of cellular respiration. Mitochondria have an outer membrane and an inner membrane. The inner membrane has folds. The structure of the mitochondria helps it do respiration. The picture below shows the inside of a mitochondrion as if it were cut in half.

Mitochondria are responsible for doing cellular respiration in both plant and animal cells. Cellular respiration uses the glucose that plants create during photosynthesis to create ATP. Cellular respiration uses the food animals eat to create ATP. ATP holds energy for cells to live and do everything they need to do. The picture below shows mitochondria in both plant and animal cells.
