Identifying Symbols in Poetry

A symbol is a concrete representation of something abstract used in poetry and writing.

As you view the video, pay attention to how to complete these three steps:

1.  Identify and circle repeated images.
2.  Think: Are the images positive or negative?
3.  Ask: What idea does the image symbolize?
Then, try to identify how symbols are used in The Star-Spangled banner.
