Root Words Game

Why do we need to learn root words? Understanding how words are formed will not only help you be a better speller, but it will help you to build your vocabulary. Once you know many prefixes, suffixes, and roots, you will more easily be able to figure out the meaning of words you may not be familiar with.

What is a root word? A root word is part of a word that has a specific meaning. For example, the "root" of the word "metamorphosis" is "morph," meaning, "to form." Even if you had never seen the word "metamorphosis," but you knew what "morph" meant, you could make a pretty good guess as to what the longer word meant.
