The Scientific Method

The scientific method is a logical, step-by-step problem solving process that is used by scientists to help explain why things happen the way that they do. In this course, you will be using the scientific method, so it is important to be familiar with the steps involved. 


1. Identify the problem

2. Identify what you already know/make observations

3. Make a hypothesis (educated guess)

4. Experiment

5. Record observations & analyze data

6. Conclusion


It is important to have only 1 variable in your experiment. A variable is the thing that changes, the factor that you are testing. It is also important to repeat the experiment, to strengthen your results and make sure your hypothesis is supported.
