6.4 ASSIGNMENT: "My Future" Lesson (Due October 5)
9th grade “My Future” Lesson
Objective: You will gain awareness of careers that match your interests, how to gain the training necessary to be employed in those careers, and the post-secondary schools that offer the programs in which you are interested. You will also further your knowledge of scholarships.
1. Watch this introduction video from your counselor--Mrs. Jenni Wurm My Future Video Link.
2. Log into https://www.utahfutures.org/ Note: If you do not already have an account/log in, please click on “sign up” and create an account. You’ll use this account throughout your entire high school career. This document will give you instructions on signing up for your account: How to create a Utah Futures account
3. Open the 9th Grade My Futures College & Career Ready Worksheet. Click EDIT and MAKE A COPY. Rename your copy firstinitial.lastname.9thgrade (E.Andersen.9thgrade).
4. Once you’re logged into Utah Futures, scroll down to the bottom and click on “Career Cluster Inventory” located under Assessments. Read the instructions and then click on “Start Traditional” or “Quick Start”. Both these buttons will give you the same information. The Traditional button will only ask one question at a time, and the quick start button will show you all the questions.
5. When you have completed the questions, answer the reflection questions and SAVE your results. Don’t close your Career Cluster Inventory. You’ll need your results to fill out the worksheet.
6. From the results (Career Groups) click on the highest rated Group and find a career you are interested in. Now compare a few careers looking at the different aspects of the career. Save your favorite career(s) by clicking the grey star on the Career Results page
7. On the Career Results page, click on “Education” under Topics. Note: Programs are listed in alphabetical order. The program at the top may not be the best option.
8. After you have filled out the worksheet. Click SHARE and copy the link (control+c). Share with your counselor, Mrs. Jenni Wurm, at jwurm@mountainheightsacademy.org and your teacher, Mrs. Daley, at mdaley@mountainheightsacedmy.org.
9. Return to this assignment and click ADD SUBMISSION to open a text box. Paste link (control+v) into text box and click SAVE CHANGES to submit.
