4.2 ASSIGNMENT: Fever 1793 Chapter 1-2 Questions (Due November 30)
Fever 1793 Chapter 1-2
10 points
Answer the following questions. Some of these questions have multiple parts, so make sure you answer everything.
1. Read between the lines: "I fastened my stays and badly embroidered pocket over the white shift I slept in. Then I stepped into my blue linen skirt. It nearly showed my ankles. Along with the ceiling getting lower, my clothes were shrinking too" (3). What does this passage say about the family's situation? What can you infer? (at least 3-5 well written and developed sentences. 3 points)
2. What is the setting of this story? How does this tie into what we have been studying so far this year in this class? Remember that setting includes time, historical background, and physical surroundings. (at least 3-5 well written and developed sentences. 3 points)
3. "She quickly tied a bonnet under her chin and left the back door closing behind her with the sharp sound of a musket shot" (10). This is a great example of a metaphor (comparing something to something else without using "like" or "as"). In this metaphor, the sound of the door closing is compared to what? (1 point)
4. Write your own metaphor. (3 points)
