Climate Change at Work:  Case Study Shismaref Alaska (20 points)

The media is often talking about climate change and its effects on our planet.  In this case study, we will be looking at the village of Shismaref, Alaska.  What has increasing temperatures meant for the people that have lived on this small island?  


Instructions for Assignment:

1. Read this article on Actively Learn:  Warming Turns Alaskan Villagers into Migrants

2.  As you read through the article, highlight any fact/evidence that you see for climate change.  You may want to add some notes about how this is directly affecting the people of the village.  

3.  In Moodle, Click Add Submission.  Type your answers to the assignment below, or paste a ink to a google doc with the answers.  

4.  Assignments Requirements:

  • List 3 facts or examples of evidence from the article and explain how they show that climate change is happening in the area around the island.
  • List the main effect the changing climate is having on the villagers.  Write a 4-5 sentence paragraph detailing the effects the people are facing. 

5.  Click Save Changes to submit your assignment.


After you have completed this assignment, it will be marked as complete with a checkmark after it has been graded by the instructor.
