Course Description: The focus of Chemistry is to study matter and how it changes. This course covers many topics which include: measurement, atoms & molecules, stoichimoetry, states of matter, chemical reactions, periodic trends, thermochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and kinetics. 

Course Structure: This course is set up with lessons and assignments surrounding one topic. Lessons include reading reviews, science blogs, labs, actively learn reading assignments, presentations and quizzes. 

Expected Participation: You should expect to spend an average of 5 hours per week in this course. I recommend you start working on assignments early in the week to ensure that you have time to ask any questions you have.

Grading: The grading scale is as follows:

Reading Reviews: Reading reviews are questions that help you focus in on the key concepts of the reading you do each week. 

Science Blogs: There is a science blog at the end of most weeks. These blogs are hosted within our school system and cannot be viewed by others on the web. The purpose of the blogs is to promote reflection and deeper understanding 

Assignments:  The assignments are listed at the bottom of each week and are numbered and list a due date. Each assignment is different, so be sure to carefully read all directions. 

Quizzes: There are generally 4 quizzes each quarter. You will only get one attempt on each quiz, so be sure you are prepared before you begin. You will be able to drop one quiz score each quarter. 

Due Dates: All work is due the last day of the week at 6:00 pm.  Due dates are listed on each assignment. 

Late Work Policy: If you miss an assignment and would like to make it up, you will fill out the Late Work Request Form at the top of the course page in the Announcements section. You can receive 80% of the total earned points. No late work will be accepted during the last week of each quarter.
