  • A region's weather depends on its air temperature, air pressure, humidity, precipitation, wind speed and direction and other factors
  • Climate is the long term average of weather (period of 30+ years)
  • Weather can change in minutes, but climate changes slowly
  • A tornado is a whirling funnel of air extending down from a cumulonimbus cloud
  • The Fujita scale measures tornado intensity based on wind speed and damae tropical cyclcones because they originate in the tropical latitudes
  • The damage caused by hurricanes is due largely to storm surge, but high winds & heavy rain also play a role
  • Tornadoes can only be predicted over a wide region
  • The angle our planet is tilted determines how much solar energy is received at different latitudes. This determines seasons
  • The position of planet earth in its revolution around the sun affects climate
