3.4 ASSIGNMENT: Comma Control (Due on September 14)
Comma Control (10 points)
Directions: In the following paragraph, there are some missing commas, and there are also places where there should be a period instead of a comma. Keep in mind that in order to use a comma, both sides of the sentence cannot be independent clauses (an independent clause can stand alone as sentence). See if you can find all of the errors!
Once you submit, take a look at the answer key, make corrections, and then resubmit for full credit!

In the Shadow of Wounded Knee (From National Geographic Dec. 2012 issue, page 6)
The Oglala used to thrive in that country because it gave them the richness of the prairie, they lived where the buffalo lived. And the buffalo gave them food robes a fierce and exciting occupation and a spiritual connection to the land. Others killed off almost all the buffalo and with their guns squeezed the people into a small corner of the buffalo range, the land was amputated and the heart torn out. Now the people live on the body of a corpse, how can we restore the spirit of the buffalo? Perhaps we should restore the buffalo.

STEP 3: Insert commas and periods where they belong. Be sure to use the comma rules you just looked at!
STEP 4: Make your commas a bright color--like red or pink--so that they are easy to identify.
