4.3 ASSIGNMENT: Discuss Chapters 4-6 A River Between Us (Due April 26)
Discuss Chapters 4-6 A River Between Us
15 Points- 10 points for you initial post and 5 points for a reply to a peer
STEP 1:Your job is to develop a list of 3 questions that your classmate might want to discuss about this part of the book. Don’t worry about the small details; your task is to help people talk over the big ideas in the reading and share their reactions. Usually the best discussion questions come from your own thoughts, feelings, and concerns as you read. You may also use some of the general questions below to develop topics to your group.
Tips: Consider
• A discussion of a work’s characters: are they realistic, symbolic, historically-based?
• What motivates the characters or leads them to make the choices they do?
• An in-depth discussion of the work’s events
• A discussion of any confusing passage or event
• The historical context and/or events that occurred in a particular work
• Commentary on the social, political, or economic context in which a work was written –- how does the context influence the work?
• An analysis of a specific image, passage, phrase, etc. • An analysis of a recurring image, phrase, event, etc.
STEP 2: Reply to a peer. Select 1 question for a peer's list of 3 and write a response that is at least 3-5 complete sentences and reflects on and answers 1 of the questions they posed.
This means that you will have to make TWO posts--an original post on the topic and a comment to a peer’s post.
Remember, this is not text messaging. Use proper capitalization, punctuation and grammar. It makes your discussion easier to read and helps you earn full points. Please be respectful in your responses to fellow students. A simple, "I agree" or "Good job!" is not a sufficient response. Be thoughtful and thorough. 3 sentence minimum for all posts.
How to Post: Hover above my original post and click. This will open the discussion. Click REPLY in lower right hand corner. This will open a text box for you to write your comments.
After you have completed this assignment, it will be marked as complete with a checkmark after it has been graded by the instructor.
