Week 3: Introduction and Weekly Schedule
Week 2: Introduction and Weekly Schedule
In the first unit of this course, we will be studying astronomy and space. In this unit, you will learn about the leading theory that explains the formation of our universe, as well as the evidence scientists use to support that theory. You will discover how scientists know what elements make up the stars in our universe, why they shine, and explore stars' similarities and differences. We will also spend one week focusing on our star - the sun. Additionally, you will learn about the formation of the planets that make up our solar system, and discover why the planets closest to the sun are so different from the ones farther away.
Week 2 Objectives:
- Describe the basic ingredients of all matter (e.g. protons, neutrons, electrons, atoms, elements)
- Understand the arrangement of and information portrayed in the periodic table of elements.
- Describe how matter and energy exist in the universe today, in the past, and in the future.
- Explain Hubble's Law
- Summarize the Big Bang Theory
- Describe the evidence scientists use to support the Big Bang Theory
- Submit QUIZ: Periodic Table of Elements
